Project Lead
Dear Community Partners, Stakeholders, and Supporters,
Working with youth has been my calling for more than 40 years. My journey into education came through what I often describe as “the back door”—a practical means of keeping a roof over my head while I pursued my artistic passions and interests. What began as necessity quickly became purpose. I founded Educating Young Minds (EYM) in my apartment with two students, $50, a stack of used textbooks, and a vision rooted in possibility. From that humble beginning, I never looked back.
The opportunity to serve as the lead agency for a grant initiative such as Career Ready SoCal is not outside of my experience or professional purview; however, this journey has provided an invaluable education in collaboration, communication, shared vision, and collective community impact. It has reinforced a lesson I have long believed: meaningful change happens when passionate individuals come together with a common purpose and an unwavering commitment to those they serve.
The team responsible for the success we are experiencing today has been relentless in its pursuit of helping members of our community prepare for careers and build pathways toward long-term success. Their dedication, persistence, and willingness to innovate have created an environment where young people and emerging adults are not only supported, but challenged to believe in their own potential. Together, we are building more than programs, we are building confidence, competence, and opportunity.
Our community is truly blessed to have a team of trailblazers committed to creating a palpable and lasting impact for those seeking meaningful careers in the construction trades, green energy, and other emerging workforce sectors. Through intentional partnerships, foundational learning support, and workforce-aligned training, we are helping participants move from uncertainty to preparation, from hesitation to confidence, and from aspiration to action.
The students who have crossed our threshold are poised to become difference makers, not only for themselves, but for their families and communities. They represent resilience, hope, and the promise of what can happen when opportunity meets preparation. Watching them grow in confidence, advocate for themselves, and begin envisioning a future filled with possibility has been one of the greatest rewards of this work.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to the continued pursuit of excellence, collaboration, and community growth. This work is bigger than any one organization or individual; it is a shared investment in people, in potential, and in the future of our communities. We thank you for believing in this vision and for walking alongside us as we continue creating pathways to success.
With gratitude and purpose,
Angeles Echols
